The University of Minnesota Dance Program is committed to teaching versatile, thinking dancers and visionaries who are ready to take on several different types of challenges. At the center of the program is a modern and global contemporary-based dance curriculum that fosters an intensive creative process, offers extensive performance experience, and promotes rigorous intellectual practices. The BFA in dance emphasizes technical, compositional, performance, and theoretical training in modern dance and contemporary dance in a global context.
The Cowles Land Grant Chair connects nationally and internationally recognized artists and scholars with dance students, exposing them to contemporary artistry, masterwork and new thinking in dance studies.
Acceptance into the BFA and BA programs in dance, as well as placement into modern, African diasporic movement, jazz and ballet technique classes is by audition only.
